Rehearsal Room

I was writing a poem for Open Mic night and this poem showed its face. Here it is. I hope you like it.

On Monday the rehearsal room is quiet.
The light is off so the room is dark.
The piano stands quietly in the corner
like a person hiding at a surprise birthday party.

Monday night the room is reluctantly transformed.
The room is noisy and well lit. It is full of happy people.

‘Who are these people who disturb our Monday nights?’
the door asked the wall as they held each other tightly.

‘I think they are playing a game of musical chairs’ whispered a chair
to another chair standing alongside.

‘I think they like to hear my voice’ tinkled the piano proudly
‘as all you chairs are positioned around me’.

‘You may like to think that but you would be wrong’ replied the music stand. ‘Have you noticed the One Man?
The One Man who cannot hide?
One Man places music upon me and everybody sings to him’.

‘Oh yes. We have seen him. He is always talking or waving his
arms around. He makes everybody laugh and smile’ the chairs answered.

‘I know why they come. They have come to sing’ the piano told all listening. The piano had its Middle C key a bit out of joint as it realised it was not the thing everybody came along for.

‘When someone plays a song on my keys, my strings vibrate and that makes me feel good. These people have strings too.
They come to make music and feel good’.

‘Who are These People?’ asked the chairs still unclear what
all the hubbub was about.

‘I think These People are a choir’ insisted the music stand.
‘There is so much music I have to hold.
So many songs’.

Everybody agreed that These People were a choir.
They also agreed they enjoyed helping These People make music.

The wall held the door tightly and said
‘My friend. These People are a choir. They come to sing and be happy’.

On Tuesday the rehearsal room is quiet.
The light is off so the room is dark.
The piano stands quietly in the corner
like a person hiding at a surprise birthday party.
He is not the only one hiding.
The chairs and the music stand are hiding too.
