Writers of Fiction and Writers of Verse

I am a poet.
A poet through and through.
Tackling a mountain of words
is not something I would like to do.
Paddling in the paragraphs
instead of diving into depth.
I can leave the edge of words
when I have had enough.

Maybe the characters in books
don’t do what the writer wants them to do.
Maybe the plot thickens and sickens
and the author doesn’t have a clue
how to follow the loose ends through.

I tackled short stories in primary school.
Enjoyed them and then moved on
to playing piano and song.
I also discovered the joy of
creating a poem.
Also learning the rules of writing
and then ignoring all of them.

For my poem pals what would you
choose – book or verse
if someone asked you?
