Fire

Fire warms us.
We rub our hands together and
toast our hands near the warmth.
Fire held in the hearts of our homes
in our living rooms.

Flames greedily lick logs until
they are grey and brittle.
Back logs fall and resettle.
A winter night by the fire is
comforting and inviting.

Not so the fires of summer
destructive in its force
burning anything in its path.
Animals and man flee before it.

Man may think he has control
of red tipped matches which
ignite fire in our homes.
Man could be wrong.
