Thongs. Australian dipthongs.

Australian dipthongs
are very common.
As common as
thongs at the front door.
I have been taught we need to explore
this ugly thing which I abhor.

I don’t speak slang.
Would not know how.
I have been taught the
ways of the Italian vowel:
My conductor asks me to use
the gauche Ostralyan dipthong now.
To get into the nitty gritty and
corner of the note,
wrinkle up my nose
and let an ugly sound
out of my throat.

I trust my conductor
and follow where he leads.
I think it is to do with muscle memory.
Once you have it in your head,
it is not easy to forget it.
Then you can sing that song and
step away from that awful Australian dipthong.
